I received an email the past few days that brought up a good question about Pay Per Click marketing that I’d like to share with you. My answer here is a bit more detailed in this post as well.

Question From Barbara:
“I got stuck trying to come up with a good niche that wasn’t already so popular that the pay-per-click rate would be too high. I’ll have to go back through the course again, but I remember the explanations on how to pick a niche were not too clear for me.”

Answer:
One of the hardest things about affiliate marketing is finding a profitable niche. The explanations that Profit Lance gives in his videos and throughout the website can be hard to follow. This is because Profit Lance tries to combine SEO and PPC niche searching together.

While there are similarities between the two they need a different approach. Profit Lance tells you to put a keyword into the Google research tool to find your niche. This is good advice for SEO because you are looking for popularity trends. But what Profit Lance doesn’t cover in those videos is that PPC is dependent on finding a niche where people like to spend money.

Don’t use the approach Profit Lance uses if your thinking of PPC because there is one step missing: finding a niche that sells. This is why I start my product search with clickbank, I find a popular profitable niche and then base my keyword on that. I suggest you use the “Clickbank Profit Analyzer” in your profit lance expert member’s area.

If your website is getting 1,000 visits a day but your not making a sale then what’s the point?
This is why I stay away from keywords such as “free” because people that use the word free are not looking to buy something, so they will probably click on your Ad and leave when they see a price tag.

Instead, focus on keywords like “buy, review, scam, works, offer” because if your visitors are searching for these kinds of keywords then they are likely to take action.

Let’s say I found that I want to promote acne products. I will do keyword research and try to find targeted keywords such as “acne cure” “acne solution” “acne remedies” and even use synonyms such as pimple, blackheads and build a keyword list. I stay away from keywords like “free acne tips” because I know that the visitor will probably not buy anything.

The nice thing about google adwords is that you can drastically reduce your bid price if you have a good quality score and higher click rate (people clicking on ads). This article will help you learn more about adword quality score

This is one of the most important skills in affiliate marketing and it takes some practice. It took me a while before I learned this tactic. You can learn a great deal more about PPC marketing in the member’s bonus guide “PPC Marketing”.

Answer:

This is a topic that profit lance doesn’t cover very well in my opinion. This is because it doesn’t cover the fact that you don’t need a popular keyword to be successful.

What would you rather want: 1,000 people visiting your from a broad keyword or 10 visitors from a targeted keyword? You want those 10 people because you are much more likely to make a sale from a targeted keyword.

I’ve gotten quite a few questions from members about how I make money with Profit Lance. If your familar with Profit Lance or any internet marketing you will know there are countless ways to make money online and it can get frustrating figuring out where to start.

I make most of my money through affiliate marketing. Depending on what certain conditions I either do pure PPC, seo traffic or both. Some factors keyword competition, search volume, number of competing websites. My process for research is a bit different from the method taught in Profit Lance but it has worked for me.

Here is the simple outline I use for all my projects. I expand on this more in the members section.

1) I find a popular & profitable niche within clickbank. Do this by going to clickbank market place and search by category.

2) Find a niche where people are more willing to buy products. I personally focus on two types of products, cure and hobby.

Type 1: Cure products are products that solve a common problem such as acne or weight loss.

Type 2: Hobby products are markets where people like to spend money for entertainment value. Some niches I’ve promoted in the past I use are golf and video games.

3) Keyword research! This helps you decide what keywords to focus on, what keywords to look for with your domain name and so on.  I use google’s tool as described in the Profit Lance course.

4) Get a domain name and hosting company if you don’t already have one. I try to get the keyword or part of the keyword in my domain name. This helps seo and adwords page quality.

5) Create a landing page or review site. You can use the templates within the Profit Lance course and modify them. I personally use Dreamweaver which is expensive but a good free alternative is Kompozer which you can download here:  http://kompozer.net/. I also recommend you get familiar with basic html. 6) Drive traffic to your site. Either from search engine traffic or google adwords. Use SEO and backlinks for search engine traffic and read about PPC advertsing from both the Profit Lance course and the bonus book I provide PPC Marketing to learn more about how to write ads effective ads, sale tracking, page quality scores.

7) Track your sales. Are you getting many visitors but few sales? Try to figure out why and if you have trouble just ask me. To get decent traffic for PPC I suggest at least $30 a day but only spend money that you can afford to lose (in case you don’t make a profit).

8 ) When first starting out, take it slow. Don’t be in such a rush to make money especially if this is your first real attempt. Take time to really know what your doing and why you are doing it.

9) Don’t quit. Not every niche, keyword or product will be profitable. Some marketers only have a success rate of only 20% with their niches when starting off, it is important to learn from your successes as well as failures. I myself didn’t make any profits until my third project.

10) Never stop learning. Affiliate marketing changes everyday. Even though I’m making a good income online, I still buy books and video training programs about internet marketing. I’d suggest you try what you learned in Profit Lance first though. Take time to learn the lessons in profit lance before you think about other products.

11) Ask for Help! Don’t be embarrassed or shy about asking for help. I’m here for a reason.

I don’t know if this is covered in Profit Lance because I haven’t read much about it. I’m doing some adword campaigns and I’d like to know how I can track which ads & keywords are getting visitors and making sales and which one are costing me money. I search on this on google but all I get are make money offers and products.

Answer:

Your right, this isn’t covered in Profit Lance and it should be. This is more of an advanced topic and maybe Michael left this out so not to confuse beginners. Still a ebook would be nice to have in the member area.  There is a book on this topic that I’m trying to get rights to so I can include it in the Profit Lance Expert Bonus Package.

Tracking is important when getting into adword advertising because you want to know which keywords are making money and which ones are not. This lets you maximize your profits. It isn’t crucial to learn this when starting out because it a bit involved and tends to get people distracted and confused.  So do you do conversion tracking? There are steps involved.
